Introduction

This page explains the points needed to achieve each level, the activities you can do to earn points, and how to report your activities.

How many points are needed to achieve each level?

Base Camp: 0-259

Trail Head: 260-399

Outpost: 400-549

Ridge: 550-749

Summit: 750+ points

Everyone begins at Base Camp. Completing 260 points worth of activities gets you to the Trail Head. Another 140 gets you to Outpost. Another 150 gets you to the Ridge. then 200 more gets you to the Summit.

Everyone who reaches the Trail Head will be invited to the celebration reception at the end.

What can I do to earn points?

Activities are divided into three categories: Learn, Build Community, and Influence. Lists of the activities you can do to earn points in each category are presented below. Substack posts will be published with tips and information for completing them. As the posts are published, the activities in the list will be linked to the posts.

Category: Learn

Goal: Build awareness and knowledge

Note: Learn points are capped at 50 points per month and 200 points total.

  1. Sign up for a local government, news media or civic newsletter - 5 pts

  2. Follow an official city/county/civic org social media page - 5 pts

  3. Read minutes from a local government council, board, or commission meeting - 10 pts

  4. Attend or watch a recording of a local government council, board, or commission meeting - 10 pts

  5. Attend or watch a recording of a candidate forum - 10 pts

  6. Attend an issue-focused info session (housing, transit, safety) - 15 pts

  7. Summarize an issue that was discussed at a public meeting - 20 pts

Category: Build Community

Goal: Build relationships and networks

  1. Host a neighbor gathering, such as a coffee, potluck, or game night - 20 pts

  2. Attend a civic meeting or event with 1-3 friends - 10 pts per friend (max 30 pts)

  3. Volunteer 2 hours with a local organization - 20 pts

  4. Translate civic materials or make accessible flyers - 25 pts

  5. Host a “meet and greet” for a local candidate or a “living room conversation” about a local issue - 35 pts

  6. Coordinate a community walk or neighborhood audit - 20 pts

  7. Recruit 5 Bootcamp participants who log actions - 50 pts

Category: Influence

Goal: Gain political influence and facilitate civic action

  1. Contact a local official with a question or comment on an issue of concern - 20 pts

  2. Register to vote or check the status of your registration - 20 pts

  3. Help another person register to vote - 20 pts

  4. Organize a voter registration event - 50 pts

  5. Share a personalized voter guide with five or more people - 25 pts

  6. Volunteer for a local campaign (2+ hours). This activity could include canvassing, phone-banking, stuffing envelopes, etc. - 30 pts

  7. Moderate or help organize a candidate forum - 50 pts

  8. Lead a shift of canvassing, phone banking, or other campaign activity - 75 pts

  9. Organize election day GOTV logistics - 100 pts

  10. Submit a question to a public forum or town hall - 15 pts

  11. Provide citizen input during a public meeting - 20 pts

  12. Publish a letter to the editor or op-ed in a local outlet - 25 pts

  13. Give a friend a ride to the polls during early voting or on election day - 25 pts

  14. Vote absentee, during early voting, or on election day - 50 pts

How do I report my activities?

You can report your activities using this form. You can report up to three activities with each submission: one LEARN, one BUILD, and/or one INFLUENCE.

Most activities just require some brief description as verification. Some high-point activities will require some other confirmation.
